Τwo anti-mine protesters from Ierissos that were arrested by Greek police during the 11th April night raids. They were accused for having taken part in the arson attack against Eldorado Gold work site at Skouries in Chalkidiki, which happened on 12th February.
On Saturday 13 April in response to a nationwide mobilization against gold mining we the Open Coordinative of Thessaloniki against gold mines organised a campaign to promote awareness on the matter of the Skouries mines in Chalkidiki near our city and the fact that two activists were illegally detained. On the same day a demo was also called in a different part of town. We set up a tent in a central square and distributed information leaflets and other material showing police brutality and the great environmental destruction El Dorado haw caused and will cause in the future. We called for solidarity and support to the two detainees that would face the prosecutor the next day.
